Instant Immersion Italian, produced by TOPICS Entertainment, is a set of programs designed to help you attain greater Italian competency. The product includes five CD ROMS: Talk Now Italian, World Talk Italian, Talk More Italian, an interactive picture dictionary and a mystery game.

We felt that this program's poor grammatical instruction was its biggest drawback.

Features:  

Because there are five different programs that come with this software, you will need to learn to how to use each one. We felt this to be an unnecessary burden.

Fundamentals:  

Instant Immersion Italian is a great application if your learning style is by playing games. The material is presented across five different programs. Within each program you are presented with multiple Italian learning games.

Talk Now Italian is a fun little program that helps you to build your vocabulary through interactive games. You can use this program to record your voice to compare it against a native speaker, giving you the ability to better pinpoint problems you might be having. This software also offers you multiple quizzes to see how much Italian you are retaining.

Talk More Italian provides you with broadcast video material in Italian and comes with a glossary. This program also provides you with multiple quizzes and tests to see how your Italian is progressing.

The Interactive Picture Dictionary has over 2000 dictionary entries which allow you to see words in context and a picture of the word. This is a great way to research and learn about a particular Italian word.

The last program that Instant Immersion Italian offers is an interactive mystery program called Who is Oscar Lake, which is a fun way to build your Italian vocabulary without the use of drills and a school-like presentation.

Ease of Use:  

Installation of Instant Immersion Italian was very easy, although it was time consuming task installing all five programs.

Teaching Tools:  

TOPICS Entertainment's help for Instant Immersion Italian was adequate, but by no means spectacular. From their website you can study FAQs and access their email support.

Word Tools:  

Through the use of the several games that Instant Immersion Italian provides, you can learn many of the Italian language fundamentals. Although, one area that we felt the program was weak on was its complete lack of ability to teach Italian grammar.

Tech Support:

Summary:  

Instant Immersion Italian by TOPICS Entertainment is a great break from a school-class approach of teaching. While this program will not teach you how to become fluent in Italian, it will help you have an enjoyable time learning several other areas that will lead you to Italian mastery.
