Italian Complete Edition’s main source for learning Italian is flash cards and with three different steps and a useful progress tracker you will be able to learn and retain the information. The only problem is that the only things you can track to see how well you did or didn’t do are the flash cards. A nice feature would be if the reading, writing and other information was also included in this track list. However, Transparent Language also uses its main program so you can see what lessons you have started and which ones are complete for more simplistic tracking. You can customize your learning curriculum, by choosing which programs you wish to focus on. The Italian Learning Suite is not a cohesive learning experience.

One feature that Italian Complete Edition excels at is the use of audio and video for teaching Italian. Not only can you watch videos of native speakers but you can also record your own voice and have it analyzed to see how you sound compared to a native speaker. The only drawback is the fact that the speech recognition program is not quite as effective as the ones used in our top three products.

Ease of Use:  

Unlike many Italian learning programs, Italian Complete Edition uses two different programs that work hand in hand and share information. This can be a little tricky to learn when trying to figure out how to take a quiz or which program to use for learning games or other features. However, once you have spent a few minutes playing around with both it really is quite simple and most will get a good handle on it in no time. The program itself is quite clean, the buttons are laid out and easy to read and follow.

Teaching Tools:  

The Italian Complete Edition offers you a handful of teaching tools to optimize your learning experience. The main program (Transparent Language) has multiple virtual books organized into sections such as beginner, the fundamentals and video. Within this program you will be able to cover the more advanced features of Italian Complete Edition. Byki is the sister program that uses flash cards, allows you to take quizzes and also covers a few other basics.

If you are looking for a more visual learning angle, Italian Complete Edition has also included their LinguaMatch software that presents you with a 3D, panoramic environment, from which you can choose several locations, from a bus station to a bathroom. Within these environments you can select objects and the program will tell you its name in Italian.

Word Tools:  

Italian Complete Edition offers a wide range of tools used for translating and defining almost any word you will come across with a built-in dictionary and glossary. You will also find that in many of the reading/writing programs just a simple click will tell you if the word is a verb, noun or anything else plus the definition of the word.
